I write this post and almost immediately I receive a pointless spam reply reading…
“A different issue is that video gaming has become one of the all-time most significant forms of entertainment for people of any age. Kids participate in video games, plus adults do, too. The XBox 360 has become the favorite gaming systems for those who love to have hundreds of games available to them, and also who like to learn live with people all over the world. Many thanks for sharing your opinions in Why You Shouldn’t Spam Blog Comments”
Oh the irony! I suppose their contribution has made it onto the blog, but not their link. I keep my fingers crossed for a more intelligent response : )

Your blog is wonderful visually, I mean people wont be bored. But others who can see past the videos and the layout wont be so impressed together with your generic understanding of this subject.

Hmm… Must be those people who are using automatic blog commenting software. And to think that they’re using spam in a post against spam. Oh, the irony. Anyway, I have to agree with your point on quality over quantity. Bloggers appreciate it more if you add value to the post and converse well with the other people participating in it.

You make me wanna leave a trash link bait comment like no one else, you saucy little minx.
As always, I think the key here is to ask yourself, am I adding to the topic, or am I adding distraction? What do I have to offer that helps this become more than if I weren’t here.

Why You Shouldn’t Spam Blog Comments
This is a bit of an unscheduled post, but it was motivated by what I saw today. I haven’t been online for a few days as I had a mini holiday in Tenby Wales, which was by the way a lovely break! When I returned and logged into my admin account for this blog, I was (at first) pleasantly surprised to see 26 comments that needed approving.
“Generic Viagra, containing Sildenafil Citrate,”
“Reveal the secret how to get more leads/sales with video traffics for free at…”
“If you’re serious about making money with your website, watch this free video about getting free instant targeted traffic to your site…”
There were then the numerous ones saying vague things, such as…
“Excellent weblog!”
“Have you though about adding some related links to the write-up? I think it might improve everyone’s understanding.”
“I liked your article is an interesting technology thanks to google I found you”
“hello, wonderful article, and an amazing understand! just one for my favorites.”
There were 2 or 3 that were from SEO company’s that were saying that my on page SEO was not up to scratch and that I should use their service. One of them offered some fairly useful advice, but wouldn’t it have been better to email me with this advice, rather than attempt to post it on my comments? Can I really take comments such as these seriously?!…
“Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is not that great, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at…”
“After reading your blog post I browsed your website a bit and noticed you aren’t ranking nearly as well in Google as you could be. I possess a handful of blogs myself and I think you should take a look here: (link removed) You’ll find it’s a very nice tool that can bring you a lot more visitors. Keep up the quality posts”
There were also quite a few that just repeatedly posted their links, without any text at all.
Now none of these are going to fool me. They are obviously not written in response to anything I have written, so why would I approve them on my blog? They are not in any way commenting on my posts, and to me seem completely self serving. Some are probably generated by automated software and some are done manually, probably cutting and pasting. If you are guilty of using these tactics, then please read on to the end. I am not here to blast you. I just want to show you why you should not be using this type of spammy marketing tactic, for your own benefit. This could very well be the turning point that helps you to become a successful internet marketer.
I LOVE constructive comments on blog posts. I think when done right, they can add tremendous value to a blog post. Also the person who makes intelligent and thoughtful blog posts will get credit for their intelligence and expertise. It’s healthy to see differing opinions and expereinces, that are intelligently reasoned. People will follow the link to these contributors blogs to find out more about them. People are crying out for high quality useful information on the internet, because in truth there is not a lot of it about.
Those who send these spammy blog comments are missing out big time. Their posts are unlikely to make it onto the blog in the first place. Even if they did, who is going to want to click on a spammers link and use a spammers product or service? I sure as hell know I wouldn’t trust them.
If you use this tactic as a means of promotion, I strongly urge you to stop, for the sake of the internet, and for your own benefit. I’ll wager that this tactic gets you virtually no extra visitors, sales, or improvements in search engine rankings, yet it still costs you a great deal of time. You probably barely make any money online if this is your current mindset. And that is what a lot of it boils down to – mindset. Have the mindset of a successful individual who provides quality materials on the internet, rather than one of the many masses who earn little or no cash, pumping out loads of useless content.
Actually read a blog post before commenting on it. If you have nothing to say, fine, move on. If you do, then take your time and put in as thoughtful a response as you can. Remember, your business will be judged by everything you write, so don’t post crap that you may regret later.
Not everyone is aware of this rule on the internet that I am about to tell you. People who make serious cash online all know and apply this rule all the time, with almost everything they do. The people who struggled to make even a few dollars, usually do the opposite. The golden rule is…
***QUALITY OVER QUANTITY***
Remember this, because I swear if you remind yourself of this with everything you do, your popularity and earnings will soar. Write it on a large piece of paper and put it above your computer as a constant reminder. Quality over quantity. Over time this will eventually become a good habit.
It is far better to have 2 or 3 intelligent blog comments, than it is 20 or 30 spammy ones.
It is better to post 2 or 3 quality articles to article directories than it is to post 20 or 30 poorly written ones.
It is better to write 2 or 3 top quality posts on your own blog than it is to write 20 or 30 useless posts.
I know you are keen to get out there and earn some cash, and it can be awfully tempting to mass produce a load of rubbish to try and get your name out there, but this is actually an ineffective use of your time. Your name might get out there, but it will be associated with low quality material that will be ignored, or worse still ridiculed. This will not help you in business.
You get far more bang per buck producing fewer but higher quality pieces. Trust me I know this for a fact. You will also feel a lot more joy and good about yourself contributing to the internet in a positive way, which will help keep you motivated towards your goals. Do things the right way and eventually you will reap the rewards. Be proud and open with your business, not devious and covert. You will build trust, and trust is what ultimately makes you money online.
Make everything you write as good and as useful as you can. People get tired of wading through rubbish to see the odd gem. On this blog I aim to make every post as good and as useful as I can. Maybe I don’t always succeed, but I always try. It’s no good if it has 10 great posts and 50 useless ones of filler. Not many people will sift through the filler to find the gems. I want everything to be good. What’s the point in putting out regurgitated rubbish that can be found in thousands of other places on the internet? This will not compel people to return to my blog, link to it, or tell their friends about it.
Make this the turning point right now. Constantly remind yourself of the mantra “quality over quantity”. Use and develop your expertise and have something to say. People will want to listen to you if you put in the thought – even if they don’t always agree with you. Have a point of view with intelligent reasoning to back it up. It’s no good saying you don’t agree with a post if you don’t explain why.
Also don’t write angry. If a post has wound you up, then you are better going away for a few minutes to calm down before writing your response. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with a post, but there is a professional way of doing this.
Like I said before, if you keep mindful of the phrase “quality over quantity” with EVERYTHING you do, then you are more than half way there already, and soon you will have a successful online business you can be proud of.
If you found this post useful, then please consider sharing it with your friends on social networks such as Facebook, Stumble, and Twitter. If you own a website or blog, then please consider linking to this post. We really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!
