How To Get A Money Making Mindset
I firmly believe that this is one of the most important things you can learn about if you want to be successful in business. Your mindset is crucial to your success. With just average intelligence you can go a long way with the correct mindset. With the wrong attitude, it doesn’t matter how smart you are, you will not succeed.
Most of us are not brought up with an entrepreneurial background. Most peoples’ parents were employees. At school most of us were advised in terms of what employment you wanted to choose. Most of your friends probably talk about employment, rather than business opportunities. Often our backgrounds can cause us to harbour some negative feelings about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. These negative feelings need altering, because if you are not comfortable doing what you are doing, then you are doomed to failure. Your mind will subconsciously sabotage your efforts.
Common Negative Thoughts About Entrepreneurship
Here are just a few commonly held negative beliefs about entrepreneurship…
- Entrepreneurs are bad people.
- All entrepreneurs care about is money.
- It is wrong to desire large amounts of cash.
- You will lose friends when you gain money.
- You don’t deserve to be rich.
Here is my answer to each of these…
- Entrepreneurs are NOT all bad people. Yes some can be, but so can some employees. I usually find fellow businessmen that are successful to be interesting and pleasant people. They have had to develop certain qualities in order to be successful. Anyone can do nothing and achieve nothing – that’s the easy option.
- Entrepreneurs want to make cash, but so do employees. Most employees don’t really like their jobs – which means they must be doing them largely for the money. Many successful entrepreneurs love what they are doing, which is how they managed to survive in their early years when they were making little money, and why so many continue to work even when they have made more than enough money. How many people do you know would continue to work in their jobs if they came into a large amount of cash?
- Why is wrong to desire large amounts of money? As long as you are making it in an honest and ethical way, then what’s the problem? If you are providing some sort of service that people are willing to pay for, because they are benefiting from it, then isn’t that usually a good thing? Often when you are in business, you also help others create wealth as well. The money you receive may be spent on outsourcing for your business. Also anything you spend personally is also of benefit. Going to a restaurant helps keep the staff their in jobs for example.
- You MAY lose friends if they get jealous of your success, but do you really want friends like this? Are friends that want you to stay poor and unsuccessful like themselves really worth keeping? With a higher income, you may find new social opportunities to make some new friends.
- You HAVE to believe that you deserve to be rich or it will not happen. Our subconscious minds are very good at influencing our behaviour, and you will find that if you don’t believe you deserve to be rich, then it is likely to sabotage your efforts. Hypnosis is great for helping you to remove negative attitudes such as this. In particular there is a very useful audio session available called Successful Thinking.
Don’t Think Like An Employee
One of the biggest differences between an employee and a businessman is the WAY they get paid. An employee works, then quickly gets paid for this work. When they stop working they stop getting paid. However a businessman thinks more long term than this. They want to get paid for when they are working, and when they are not. They are also prepared to work for nothing whilst they are building a business.
For instance I worked for over a year on my first websites with very little financial reward. I put in several hours a day for hardly any cash, yet I still kept going. I wasn’t working for immediate reward. I was trying to build something. Build a solid platform so that eventually it would be far easier to make money. I wasn’t going to give up for short term gain at the expense of my long term future. I had to keep going. Now I can take a week, or even a month off if I really wanted to, and it would barely effect my earnings. My foundation has been set.
Recently I was offered a sum of money to product a series of hypnosis weight loss audio sessions for someone in return for a flat fee. This was a generous flat fee for what might have been a week or two’s work. From an employee perspective it was generous, but not from a business sense. They wanted full rights to sell this product once I made it, without me being able to do the same. I could have made some quick cash, but it wasn’t good business sense.
Instead of getting a flat fee, I can instead make these sessions for myself, and sell these many times over for the next 10,20 maybe even 30 years. Doing it this way would eventually net me far more than anyone would ever pay me. From a business perspective I did the right thing by turning down this offer. By accepting this I would have been entering into a more employee relationship, than a business one. Some people probably thought I was crazy for rejecting this, but I knew I was right.
Instead you should focus on trying to build something that will earn you more cash in the long term, rather than short term cash. Try to make money on autopilot, or as near as you can. The less direct work you need to do to continue earning cash, the more time you have for yourself, or to build other money making streams. Of course if I had really needed a quick cash injection to pay for some other project, then I might have been tempted, but this wasn’t the case. Always think long term if you can about any decision. I would probably make 100 times more in the long term selling this product for myself. Keep building for your future.
If I had an employee mindset, I could have been kicking myself for having ‘lost money’. This might have pressured me into making what I believe to be the wrong decision. However I would rather look for opportunity, rather than quick injections of cash.
I have also resisted many peoples’ advice on giving live hypnosis sessions via Skype. Even though I know I would make some decent cash short term, I know it will take up all my time, hampering me from further building up my online businesses. In the long term I will lose from this approach.
The Law Of Attraction
Just a few years ago there was a lot of hype surrounding the new concept of the “Law Of Attraction”. This largely focused on the concept of visualising your success until it becomes a reality. However many people mistook this for all that was needed to be done. You must also take action.
This concept was actually borrowed from the 1930′s book “The Secrets of How To Think Rich”, by Napoleon Hill. It was written following 25 years of directly studying geniuses such as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Theodore Roosevelt and Alexander Bell. I HIGHLY recommend you read this book, as it is far better and more useful than its modern contemporaries. There is a detailed article and video about Napoleon Hill and his famous book at this link – Napoleon Hill – The Secrets of How To Think Rich
Goals
In order to be successful you must have some goals, both short term and long term. You cannot achieve something that you don’t know what you want to achieve. Your goals must be clear and definite. A long term goal may be to own a villa by the sea within the next 7 years. You then create some short term goals to lead up to this. They may be something like increase earnings by 30 percent each year for the next 7 years. To reinforce this message, write them all out on small index cards and stick them around your computer where you will see them when you are working. Better still, find some nice pictures of villas (or whatever it is you want) and place them around where you work. This will act as a motivator and a reminder as to why you are doing what you are doing.
Never Fear Failure
The majority of people don’t follow their dreams because they are too frightened of failure. You must change this attitude and think that the only failure is not trying something due to the fear of failure. Things will not always go to plan, but that must not stop you from trying anything. You will find that over time, once you have failed and succeeded a few times, your entrepreneurial instincts will become heightened, and you will more accurately be able to predict whether a course of action is worth pursuing or not.
Of course you don’t want to go gung ho and lose all your possessions and bankrupt yourself, but you must be prepared to take some calculated risks. You may calculate that the risks are not worth the potential rewards for a particular decision, and that is good and sensible. Just don’t allow yourself to be crippled with fear, that stops you making the most of opportunities that come your way.
Affirmations
Affirmations are a great way to get your mindset from a negative to a positive frame. All you need to do is say them to yourself, either in your head, or out loud, a few times a day. The more committed and definite you express these the better. You can make your own up, but here are a few suggestions you might want to use…
Every day I am getting wiser and more knowledgeable.
I am intelligent and capable.
I am a kind and loving person.
I deserve to be rich.
If I work hard, I will succeed.

Quotes
I find that regularly reading motivational quotes helps me maintain and develop my entrepreneurial mindset. This is one of my favourites…
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Marianne Williamson
Conclusion
Most of us are not brought up to be entrepreneurs, so it is vitally important that we work on our business mindset. You simply will not exceed without doing so, unless it is already developed. You will learn automatically simply by doing, but in order to increase your success beyond the average person, you must work on improving your business mindset all the time. As your mindset improves, new opportunities will come your way, and you will find it easier and easier to generate larger sums of cash. Enjoy the journey!

An optimistic mindset definitely plays a factor in success online. Attaining wealth has to do with never giving up and staying positive. Optimism is key to success and getting on the path to a wealthy future.
Totally agree with you Andrea. A negative mindset usually means missing out on opportunities because the person does not believe there will be a positive outcome.
I totally agree that having the right mindset can make or break you. I’m still working to improve mine to benefit me in all areas of life.
I think it is something we have to constantly work on and develope alongside working on and developing our businesses.
